RoR Developer Fast-Growing, Fun, Entrepreneurial Web Company Seeks an experienced Ruby on Rails Developer
TITLE: Rails Developer ROLE:
Can you pick up new technologies rapidly? Do you read different tech-related blogs? Would you like a job where you use you can leverage your existing Ruby on Rails skills? If so we may be looking for you!
We are looking for developers to help build and expand our technology platform. This includes building new web-based applications for use by our internal users as well as extending our existing applications. We are looking for people who have developed and deployed web-based applications
You will work closely with our business teams and other developers to understand the new applications and changes needed, and then build and deploy these ideas. You will be expected to use Ruby on Rails for development of most new applications and help the team .replace existing Java based functionaity
You will report to our Vice President of Operations Technology and will be part of our small, fun, and fast-moving team currently using the Scrum Development Methodology RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will be responsible for implementing new features on our intranet/extranet site, also known as our Backend applications. Within this, you will need to:
- Discuss new features with designers and other business teams, giving input on what is technically feasible.
- Writeup of user stories and acceptance procedures
- Implement new features and applications.
- Resolve bugs found in different areas of code.
- Determine project schedules and your own milestones. You will be responsible for scoping your work and hitting the deadlines you set.
- Help with maintenance on existing systems as necessary.
You will also help drive our development practices forward. You will be expected to research new technologies and techniques to ensure we stay productive and are using the best practices available. We are open to experimentation, and look for someone who enjoys working in an ever-changing environment. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Attention to detail: We strive to give our users an outstanding experience, which means making sure we do a great job on the details of what they use.
- At least 1 year of Ruby on Rails.
- Strong experience with Relational databases, SQL, table design, and complex joins.
- Strong HTML, CSS, and XML knowledge: All of our development is web-based, and we are looking for someone who is strong in these building blocks of the web.
- Sufficent experience with JavaScript/AJAX to design data driven selection lists and input validation
- Experience writing automated unit tests.
- Experience elicting requirements directly from business users who don’t have experience writing up requirements.
- Experience deploying to a Linux based environment.
- Solid experience working with one of the following methodologies: Scrum, Agile, XP, or substantially similar.
